Shaun McCarthy recently joined the growing Sierra 57 team as Projects Director. Hear about his transition into the specialist plastics recruitment, training and contract manufacturing sector, how his journey with the business has gone so far, and his ambitions for the future
Change can feel a bit daunting at times, but my move to Sierra 57 Consult has been a really positive one. From day one, I felt genuinely welcomed into a team that values working together, sharing knowledge, and helping each other grow.
One of the standout moments so far has to be my baptism of fire at Interplas 2026 – straight in at the deep end! It was fast-paced, full of great conversations, and had that real buzz you only get at a big industry event. A brilliant way to get stuck in and find my feet quickly.
A real highlight for me has been being able to use my experience to support and develop others across the plastics industry. It’s great to share ideas, offer a bit of guidance, and hopefully make a difference – while still learning plenty myself along the way. It’s also rewarding to play a part in helping companies recognise the value of investing in their people and seeing the impact that can have.
What’s made the biggest difference, though, is the team. Everyone’s approachable, supportive, and always happy to help, which makes settling in so much easier. They’re also hugely encouraging when it comes to the courses they run – there’s a real focus on developing people, not just within the business but across the wider industry too. It’s great to be somewhere that genuinely invests in growth. It’s also refreshing to be part of an environment where ideas are welcomed and contributions are recognised.
The variety of work has also kept things interesting – no two days feel the same. There’s always something new to get involved in, which keeps me learning and growing, both professionally and personally.
All in all, joining Sierra 57 Consult has been a fantastic step for me. I’m excited to keep building on this start, contributing where I can, and seeing what comes next.
